Somebody did the calculations on the firepower that this dreadnought could put out in a single salvo from it's broadside guns (assuming the Volus dreadnought has the same amount of broadside cannons as a Systems Alliance dread), using the Thanix codex entry... it became the absolute strongest ship in the current cycle, with an alpha strike potential of 1335 kilotons per broadside. Which is nearly three times (2.940528634361233, to be exact) stronger than a Sovereign-class Reaper's main cannon (454KT).

It's main cannon, running the entire length of the ship, is also a Thanix cannon. Mass accelerator weapons (at least in Mass Effect) get stronger the longer they get (of course, you also need to meet the energy requirements for a big frak off and die cannon). Just comparing the general firepower difference from a conventional mass accelerator cannon to a thanix cannon, and then upsizing it to the Dreadnought... well, you get an estimate around... 88(ish)kt per shot. Not exactly 'Reaper level' here, but it's hilarious broadside potential more than makes up for it, with the main cannon being more of a finisher than anything else. (Of course, against non-Reaper enemies, the main cannon's going to do a hell of lot of damage, with the equivalent of nearly three times the power of a standard dreadnought in a single shot.)

Honestly, were it not for the Reaper invasion, the Volus would probably be the scariest (Citadel client) race in the galaxy, especially since apparently they had five cruiser analogues scheduled as well. The only thing that balances the Volus out is the Treaty of Farixen (dreadnought treaty), which would prevent them from building more until the Turians did the same.
